The Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Association, Inc.,
is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the Labrador Retriever as an
All-Around Dog.
It is our belief that:
a show dog that will not retrieve is not a true Labrador
there is no reason why a hunting dog should not conform to the breed standard
that both should be well-mannered family members.
To these ends we hold AKC-licensed Specialty Shows, Obedience Trials, Hunting Tests, Agility Trials and Tracking Tests. We also offer Fun Matches and Working Certificates. We sponsor educational seminars and clinics and publish a newsletter. We urge our members to breed only dogs that will be sound in both type and temperament and contribute to the improvement of the breed.
We encourage all of our members to show their dogs and to work them in the field and in the obedience ring to develop their full potential while working toward the club All-Around Labrador Award. This award is given to dogs with titles in all three areas: Conformation, Obedience, and Field. The club also gives a Versatility Award to dogs who excel in three areas other than conformation.
Our nearly 300 members live predominantly in Western Washington, but also reside in Eastern Washington, Oregon, Alaska and British Columbia. Some live as far away as Vermont, Virginia, Texas and California.

Labrador Rescue
PSLRA has a very active Rescue Program. Each year the club sets new records in the number of dogs it rescues from shelters and homes that put their dogs up for adoption. Last year, approximately 300 were rescued through PSLRA efforts. PSLRA works very closely with Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue, a non-profit organization which seeks to place homeless purebred dogs.
The Labrador Retriever is a strongly built, medium-sized, short-coupled, dog possessing a sound, athletic, well-balanced conformation that enables it to function as a retrieving gun dog; the substance and soundness to hunt waterfowl or upland game for long hours under difficult conditions; the character and quality to win in the show ring; and the temperament to be a family companion. Physical features and mental characteristics should denote a dog bred to perform as an efficient Retriever of game with a stable temperament suitable for a variety of pursuits beyond the hunting environment....
